Volunteer to Teach
Our Programs in Vietnam
We have multiple programs every year (mainly between March and July) requiring trained swimming teachers. We also prefer teachers with some experience.
These programs vary in length, however the average duration of a program is 2 weeks. You may be able to add on a vacation either prior to or after the swim program.
Classes are for a few hours mainly at beginning and/or end of the day (when the sun is not so hot), 5 or 6 days a week with time to explore the local community
We teach in rural areas of Vietnam and so the accommodation is basic. However it is clean and safe. We often get invited to local houses - this provides a great insight into the daily lives of Vietnamese people.
WSV provides 50% of the costs of the essential parts of the trip; flights and accommodation. Some previous volunteers have completed swim-a-thons, sold unwanted clothes and ran their own trivia nights. Crowd funding, using social media such as Go Fund Me, is an easy way for friends and family to support your trip.
Our Process
WSV has sent 104 teachers to Vietnam since 2012
Step one is to send your CV and copy of your Working with Children Check. We then contact you and arrange an interview.
If your application is successful, your trip will depend on your availabilities as well as our scheduled programs
Please see the Testimonials section of our website to gain a better understanding of our volunteer teachers experiences.
Our volunteers need the following:
Any recognised swim teacher qualification (eg. AUSTSWIM, ASCTA)
Current Working with Children Check
Experience teaching children to swim.
Our Expectation of Volunteers
We ask our volunteers to raise 50% of the cost of their trip or seek a Sponsor.
By doing so they are able to raise awareness in the wider community about Water Safety Vietnam's vision, projects and the drowning rates in Vietnam.
